Consumer Sentiment Improves Slightly But Remains Broadly Somber

Consumer sentiment lifted slightly in December but remains near a historically low level. The Michigan Consumer Sentiment Index rose 2.3 points (4.5%) to 53.3 this month, its first increase in five months.
