ISM Manufacturing PMI: Fastest Contraction in Nine Months

The Institute for Supply Management (ISM) manufacturing purchasing managers index (PMI) came in at 48.0 in July, indicating contraction in U.S. manufacturing for a fifth straight month. This is the fastest contraction for the sector since October 2024 and was below the forecast of 49.5.
Consumer Sentiment Inches Up in July But Remains Historically Low

Consumer sentiment inched up in July, increasing for a second straight month. The Michigan Consumer Sentiment Index was up 1.6% (1.0 point) to 61.7 this month. This is the index's highest level since February but still reflects historically low levels of optimism.
